Government Ferry is the oldest and long-standing player when it comes to connectivity among various islands in Andamans. Government Ferry is the lifeline of the islanders as the locals use it mostly for the inter-island transfers. It is by far the strongest ferry that runs from Port Blair to Havelock and Neil Island.
The seating is not as good as a cruise but the view from the deck is great! You get a chance to go to the deck and see the vast open sea and also you get a chance to visit the captain’s corner.
The Government Ferry has been the most punctual when it comes to timings and best for the services provided. It is the only ferry that will sail during rough weather to drop off people who are stranded on an island.
Most people are skeptical about taking a Govt ferry with the mixed conception of safety and services but the government ferry is one of the most reliable ferries in the islands. The comfort and seating are basic compared to the cruises but the ride is a different experience with the open deck. If you are looking for an experience of a local islander then you can opt for the Govt ferry for one of the trips that you will be taking in Andamans.
If you are a photographer, we suggest you to board the evening ferry at 4.30 PM from Havelock because on your way back you can get candid shots of the mesmerizing sunset. The usual sunset timings at Andamans are early around 5.30 PM. We suggest you avail one side of your journey in Government ferry just for its experience.
Note that we book Government Ferry only with Day Tours/Activities/Packages as it is difficult to book Government Ferry in the Andaman Islands.
Since the Government Ferries have a huge demand and the tickets can be booked either on the day of sailing or three days before the journey, a prior request has to be submitted for us to go ahead with booking the tickets.
FOREIGN OR NON-INDIAN CITIZENS - WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BOOK GOVT. FERRY FOR YOU. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PHYSICALLY REPRESENT YOURSELF TO BOOK GOVERNMENT FERRY ALONG WITH THE RESTRICTED AREA PERMIT. WE SUGGEST SELECT CRUISE FOR YOUR JOURNEY.
